Designed with a focus on sustainable practices, this workshop will teach participants how to transform post-industrial fashion waste into functional and decorative loop-pile tapestries. Workshop Overview Participants will begin with an introduction to Svetlana’s textile art practice and her use of reclaimed materials in creative applications. The hands-on portion of the workshop focuses on the core techniques of hand tufting, including: - Safe operation of tufting tools and equipment. - Preparation and use of repurposed fabric yardage and textiles. - Completion of a sample loop-pile tapestry, exploring texture, design, and practical applications. Students will also discuss how tufting techniques can be integrated into their own creative practices. Bringing personal fabric scraps or yardage is encouraged to make the work more individualized and make good use of that fabric stash! Participants will also have a sneak peak into machine tufting and intermediate processes that Svetlana's 8 week tufting intensive will work through in late April.
